| Overview of Church: | The church was part of the Benedictine nummery of Lyminster, and the unmistakable Saxon remains are the walling of both nave and chancel.
The whole proportions of the interior are high, narrow and majestic. The walls are 20ft high and onlt 2ft 6ins thick. The chancel arch is the same height and onlt 8ft 2ins wide. A north aisle was added in the 12th century and a huge tiled roof covers the nave and aisle to within a few feet of the ground. Not far from the church is the mysterious Nucker or Kucker Hole. This pool of water is always cool in summer, but never freezes in the winter. Legend has it that a water monster lived in the water and was slain by a Jim Palk. His tombstone is in the church, a medieval stone slab, without inscription but with a worn design of a cross superimposed on a herring-bone pattern. |
